In my letterbox this week…

This week was a short week, no mail on Monday as it was Anzac Day, still a few things came this week!
First up a set of books I won from K-zone, maybe i’ll have a read myself and pass them on.

Also was a week for movie tickets, Double Passes to Mother’s Day and Florence Foster Jenkins showed up this week. I passed the latter onto my neighbour as I know she’ll enjoy the movie on her weekly trip to the movies!

Book Review… Not that Kind of Girl- Lena Dunham

For the uninformed Lena Dunham is the girl genius behind HBO tv series Girls.
She’s a 28 year old genuis, I mean whom else can write a tv show and star in it all themselves and have a biography by the age of 28, although her book is “short essays”, it’s still about her life so I guess a biography of types.
I had wanted to read this book since it came out but just never got around to it, seeing it sitting on my TBR (To Be Read) pile was making me sad and more intrigued, I kept hearing people say this book was full of messed up scenarios so I had to see for myself.

I loved how brutally honest this book was, Lena is really unique, quirky and not a typical 20- something. She did come from a family that is better off so her bringing up is very different to say mine or yours. This book touches on how her parents treated her, to how she felt about having a little sister, to her been afraid of going to sleep up until a later age.
It also touches on her sexual experiences, drug use, extreme diets and mental issues. It’s not a book for those whom want a fantasy, this is no fantasy but it still left me in hysterics at times.

If you watch the HBO series, are curious about Lena or are a 20’something that feels a but left of centre I would recommend this book!

I give it 4 and a half stars out of 5.

In my letterbox this week…

Only a few goodies in the mail this week! However I was still very happy with the few things that did come.

This months issue of It’s a Rats World magazine came, as everyone knows I love rats. The past 9 years i’ve been a rat mum to many lovely rat sons. This past month I lost both Remi and Spencer, Remi to a stroke and Spencer to respiratory issues, a broken heart and old age. I miss them terribly.
It’s a Rats world is a magazine dedicated to like minded rat parents, rat lover and in general the rat crazy!

The April issue is full of information, stories and lovely pictures of adorable rats.
I especially love the Annoucements page with annouces Newbie rats, Birthday rats and those dreaded Goodbyes.
April 2016 Cover

Also recieved a prize from People magazine.
Evil Life- The True Story of the Calabrian Mafia in Australia! This looks really interesting, I love true crime and horror so this is right up my alley.

The last thing that came in the mail this week was a pair of Jade Pants by Betty Basics.
I purchased these through (my favourite online store) and was thrilled when they arrived within a day of me placing the purchase. I love these pants, actually love isn’t a strong enough word, they are the epitome of awesome, they are cosy, spunky and look really cool. I am considering getting these in every colour!
Check out the birdsnest website you’ll be glad you did, it’s got a great range of styles, brands, and price points. It’s my one stop shop.
Oh and the ladies that run it are amazing, they’ll even pop a sweet note with your purchase making you feel extra special!

Empties Review… Biore Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser!

Biore is the brand that makes those funky strips for your nose, chin and forehead that pull out your blackheads. They kind of make you look like Hannibal Lecter but they are a godsend for those terrified of a dreaded blackhead.

This product is dark in colour thanks to the charcoal which makes it easy to find on the supermarket shelf. I had tried a few of Biore’s other products before I picked up this one.
The other cleansers are good, the blackhead strips are wonderful but nothing compares to this charcoal cleanser!
Once you apply it to your face it feels fresh, feels like it’s working even before you rub it in.
Bubble it up and it feels warming and cleansing.
It left my skin fresh, clean and my pores didn’t seem so visible after use.
It’s a simple product that is easy to use, no fancy instructions but that delivers what it says which is hard to find these days.
I’d recommend Biore Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser to those wanting a deep clean for oily/ combination skin.
Will I purchase again, of course. Biore has me in hook line and sinker! biore

In my letterbox this week…

One of my hobbies is entering competitions, which if i’m lucky means something comes in the letterbox at least once a week that isn’t a bank statement!
I thought i’d share what comes through my letterbox every Saturday so any readers (do I have any?) can have a noisy look.

Monday this Tresemme Youth Boost Youth Correcting Essence came in the mail. It says it restores hair’s youthful look, perfect because my hair is pretty horrible. It’s dry, poofy at the top and some terrible colour from a dye job. Yes Tresemme you’re in for a true test!
On Wednesday a dvd that I ordered with a JB HIFI voucher came Alcatraz. I’ve never seen any of this tv show and ordered it for my mum. I might check it out though as i’m always on the hunt for new tv shows to binge on.
Wednesday the postie also brought my $200 Lorna Jane gift voucher I won months ago in the Blackmores Superfoods/ Woolworths competition.
And a DVD I purchased for my neighbour, she told me about it on the weekend and how she couldn’t find it anywhere, I searched ebay and found a 2nd hand video ezy copy.
Friday was another dvd day, a few more I ordered with the JBHIFI voucher.
I’m really looking forward to watching The Visit. I love horror movies and this one seems really quirky.
And Ted 2 because nothing beats a good laugh!

All up it was a good week for mail. Now to look forward to what next week will bring!

Big W, A Big Yes for a small budget

Recently the new Big W catalogue came in the mail, as always I was hanging out for my next trip to Big W.
Where else can you get some new Lee Cooper threads, homeswares, pet goodies, the newest horror movie, chick lit and a block of chocolate all in the one place? Only at Big W!

The new catalogue is filled with cute gear for the new season and i’m particularly interested in the Lee Cooper range and Emerson (Big W exclusive brand) jeans. Last year I picked up a pair of black skinny jeans for $20, I wore them on every outing for all of the cooler months. Black skinny jeans are the easiest item of clothing to style, go casual with a tee and sneakers or dress them up with boots and a leather jacket (another piece on my winter wish list).
For Autumn the Lee Cooper range is full of bohemian style, flowy tops, flared jeans, crochet and I even spotted a leather jacket in the catalogue.
Here is my top 3 in the range:
This flowy top looks perfect for the weather Brisbane is having right now and I love the pattern.
A chunky knit is perfect when going out on the weekend and this one looks really cosy.
skinny jeans
Black skinny jeans, a cropped pair always works out better for me since i’m short.

Big W also seem to be ramping up there homewares range and I spotted some goodies.
One in particaular been this side table
I can imagine exactly where i’d place it and what i’d place on it!

Maybe Big W will take over the Kmart craze and we’ll see tags of #bigstyling #bighacks, I know where i’ll be heading this weekend.

A long time coming…

I’d been toying with the idea of starting a blog for a long time, a place where I can share my thoughts, my photos and my write ups on what i’m interested in.
After much talking about, thinking about and wanting too I decided just do it, you only live once and even if no one reads this at least i can say i’ve done it.

Why Light, Bright, Darkness? On a clear day we go through the Light of the morning, the Bright of the day and the Darkness of night. On an emotional level we go through light emotions, bright emotions and Dark emotions. Also I had to have something that refereneces the greatest band on earth, The Darkness!
