For the uninformed Lena Dunham is the girl genius behind HBO tv series Girls.
She’s a 28 year old genuis, I mean whom else can write a tv show and star in it all themselves and have a biography by the age of 28, although her book is “short essays”, it’s still about her life so I guess a biography of types.
I had wanted to read this book since it came out but just never got around to it, seeing it sitting on my TBR (To Be Read) pile was making me sad and more intrigued, I kept hearing people say this book was full of messed up scenarios so I had to see for myself.
I loved how brutally honest this book was, Lena is really unique, quirky and not a typical 20- something. She did come from a family that is better off so her bringing up is very different to say mine or yours. This book touches on how her parents treated her, to how she felt about having a little sister, to her been afraid of going to sleep up until a later age.
It also touches on her sexual experiences, drug use, extreme diets and mental issues. It’s not a book for those whom want a fantasy, this is no fantasy but it still left me in hysterics at times.
If you watch the HBO series, are curious about Lena or are a 20’something that feels a but left of centre I would recommend this book!
I give it 4 and a half stars out of 5.
